A short vowel sound is the sound that
a vowel makes when it is pronounced
quickly and softly in a word. For
example: a as in “cat”, e as in “bed”, i
as in “big”, o as in “pot” and uas in
“bug”.
A long vowel sound is a sound that
says its name.For example: a as in
“cake”, e as in “bean”, i as in “ bike”, o
as in “boat” and u as in “cube”.
4. Spelling Patterns For Short And Long Vowels
Short vowels have this spelling pattern:
CVC Pattern; spin, cat, skin, plan, plot,pet.
Long vowels have these spelling patterns:
CVCe Pattern: spine,plate,these,cone prune.
Two Vowels together pattern: rain,train,beat,street,blue moon.
Note:CVC stands for consonant vowel consonant while CVCe stand for consonant
vowel consonant-e(where the e after the last consonant is silent.
