This presentation gives a brief introduction to photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a process used by plants and other organisms to convert light energy into chemical energy that, through cellular respiration, can later be released to fuel the organism's activities.

• Photosynthesis takes place in two parts of chloroplasts.

• The light-dependent reactions capture energy from
sunlight.

– water and sunlight are needed
– chlorophyll absorbs energy
– energy is transferred to light-independent reactions
– oxygen is released from the splitting of water

• The light-independent reactions make sugars.
