Ready Gen Independent Reading Routine

A handout pledge for daily reading; students may print and attach this at home. Help your child develop the love of reading that leads to lifelong literacy by making reading a regular part of your family's daily routine.
1. Engagement and Identity
I am growing ond understanding what books | enjoy reading
by looking at myself as a reader. | can see how well I am
reading, if I am engaged, and if I can make mentd images of
the story I have chosen.
I con understand, make sense, and relate to what I am
reading by asking myself questions about the book.
2. I have good energy whie reading a book because | practice
getting lost in a book when I read for a long amount of time.
I can read at a good for me pace without stopping. | can
practice being a smooth reader by read out loud and
listening to other readers read.
3. I can read different texts by myself and without help from
my Classmates or teacher.
Critical Thinking
I can show a high order of thinking when I question the text,
author, or characters, moke predictions, and make
comections fo other stories or experiences | have had or
4. I can read to participate in a group of classmates to tak
about the text and characters. I wil be able fo hold strong
conversations and participate in discussions because | was
reading for my group.
Vocabulary Knowledge
I can read to decode and make sense of unknown words in
the story by using context clues, the dictionary, a classmate,
or my teacher for help. I am reading to understand words
that I do not know.
