Youth Empowering Parents, a Canadian charitable organization, transforms young people from "educated" to "educator." It is premised on the phenomenon of children naturally teaching English, computers, and other skills to parents and grandparents at home, and has built a training program model whereby the teaching potential of any young person can be unlocked. All programs are free, enabling adults and seniors to acquire one-on-one tutoring, while providing inner-city children and youth with a meaningful volunteer leadership experience. The organization has received Canada's top literacy award, The Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life Literacy Innovation Award. YEP is also one of just 10 organizations worldwide to receive the United Nations' Innovation Award. YEP became a charitable organization in 2014 with one Toronto location, and now operates 45 locations in 5 countries. Through YEP, inner-city youth have contributed more than $2 million worth of free one-on-one tutoring to adults and seniors in their own communities.
