The math programs at Wiz Kids are individually tailored to each child’s specific needs. We start by giving a two part grade level appropriate test. One part consists of word problems. This test measures the student’s ability to understand a given situation, and determine which operations are required to solve the problem. The second part, tests the student’s ability to solve basic arithmetic calculations. This test of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts starts out easy and get progressively more difficult. If the student is receiving math instruction in his/her regular school, ask the student to bring that work to the Wiz Kids lessons. This way we can re-teach the skills that are being learned in the classroom. It also gives us the opportunity to determine what gaps the student may have in basic math skills and then give instruction as needed. We also have well qualified tutors to help high school students in Algebra, Geometry and Calculus.
event_available SSAT Preparation
Wiz Kids has special programs for students planning on taking private school entrance examinations. When we know the date of the test we count back 10 lessons (4 to 5 weeks) and focus on test taking skills. This includes: instruction in writing essays, strategies on eliminating answers in multiple choice questions, taking practice tests and mock interviews. While we cannot guarantee acceptance into Punahou or Kamehameha, we can help prepare students for the experience of taking a big test like the SSAT.
