Courses/Programs offered

event_available Read Right Program Read Right, our unique reading intervention program, is a critical piece of our continuum of care that is changing the lives of children every single day. Read Right’s goal is to rewire the neural network in our brains that we use for reading. Instead of focusing on phonics, the curriculum encourages kids to derive meaning from the text they are reading. Through simple instruction and encouragement, tutors help the students figure it out on their own, which fosters confidence and a new comfort in reading they’ve never experienced before.
event_available Strengthening Families Thornwell’s Strengthening Families program is a fourteen-week program designed to help families strengthen their bond through education, enrichment, and community. Strengthening Families seeks to prevent family crises before they happen or assist in the healing process of families that have endured trauma. The program serves parents hoping to improve their parenting skills, children with problem behaviors or social struggles, and families that have experienced divorce, job loss, death, or other difficult circumstances. Families with children ages 6 to 11 gather once a week on Thornwell’s campus to share a meal together.

event_available The A.R.C. Residential Program Thornwell’s A.R.C. Program – Attachment-based Residential Care – offers children access to a full spectrum of services dedicated to their long-term healing. We believe in TRANSFORMATIONAL care that addresses the holistic needs of children who have experienced trauma. Children working with Thornwell’s A.R.C. Program come from loving homes with parents and caregivers who are struggling to deal with the long-term impact of their child’s early experiences of abuse and neglect.
event_available Foster Care Thornwell provides safe, family-like homes to support trauma recovery and healing while their families cope with crisis. We also place children who have no relatives to care for them with loving foster families.
event_available Learning Center Our goal is to change that—because we believe education is a powerful key to the future for kids, and because we believe that the enrichment, self-confidence, and empowerment that comes through growth in academics is a critical step towards healing.
