TC Tutoring 11 plus - Sure Steps = Big Climb

In 2022, I made the decision to stop working in the mainstream school environment and change the emphasis to concentrate fully on tutoring. In my 20 years of teaching in Devon (Plymouth) and Cornwall, I was a maths specialist/coordinator and senior leader for 10 years. I also spent 4 years in the public sector as a Deputy Headteacher. During my career, I also gained a PGCE in mathematics and a Masters degree in education - in addition I have been fortunate to have gained some excellent continuing professional development - the most valuable being my involvement with the Cornwall maths hub which has been instrumental in raising the standards of teaching and learning of mathematics.

Courses/Programs offered

11 plus preparation 11 plus preparation work for the children is ongoing in the Autumn and Spring Term and will focus on key skils from the maths and English test to increase confidence and fluency, as well as efficiency. The Summer term will lead to a more detailed focus on the exam itself and pick up on test technique and brush up on any elements that the children are lacking confidence in. Pupils will need to maintain the momentum throughout the Summer holidays to ensure that they are best prepared for the test when returning to school in Year 6 (tutoring will, of course, continue until the test).

Maths GCSE specific tutoring for children in years 10 and 11 is also available. Depending on your child's ability, he/she will be entered for the 'Foundation' exam (the grade achieved will be limited to a 5 because it is a lower tier exam) or the 'Higher' exam (grade 9 being the top mark). Your child's school will use a particular exam board (such as AQA or Edexcel) and test materials will be provided to help pupils prepare for the test.
