About

In 1997, the Congregation of St. Joseph honored its 125 years of service to the Diocese of Cleveland by providing start-up funds to an organization that incorporated its ministry:Seeds of Literacy.Specializing in GED preparation, Seeds was designed to be a free and easily accessible adult literacy program offered to residents of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Seeds of Literacy is a non-profit organization that provides : FREE basic education and GED® and HiSET® preparation to adults in the Cleveland area.In March 2020, Seeds underwent an unplanned expansion. When COVID-19 closed on-site classrooms, the organization launched a Virtual Classroom — offering free tutoring services by telephone and video.Today, Seeds serves an average of 1,000 active students annually with the help of approximately 250 volunteer tutors. We offer open enrollment, year-round classes. We also provide students supplementary opportunities such as job fairs, career planning, and assistance with exploring options for higher education.

Courses/Programs offered

event_available GED The GED Test : GED stands for: General Educational Development , The GED test has four sections (Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies). The four test sections do not have to be taken at the same time or in any certain order , The GED test can only be taken on computer at certified Pearson Vue Testing Centers . Each of the four GED sections has approximately 45 questions, however the content and structure of each test section differs dramatically: Section 1: Reasoning Through Language Arts – 150 minutes (including a 45 minute Extended Response essay and a 10 minute break) , Section 2: Mathematical Reasoning – 115 minutes (including 5 questions in which students are not allowed the use of an on-screen calculator) , Section 3: Social Studies – 70 minutes , Section 4: Science – 90 minutes (including a short answer essay question which should take approximately 10 minutes to complete) .
event_available HiSET SUBJECT AREAS : Reading: 50 multiple choice questions, 65 minutes , Writing: 60 multiple choice questions, 1 essay question, 120 minutes , Math: 55 multiple choice questions, 90 minutes , Science: 60 multiple choice questions, 80 minutes , Social Studies: 60 multiple choice questions, 70 minutes .
event_available TASC ( Test Assessing Secondary Completion ) SUBJECT AREAS : Math: 105 minutes, 42-43 questions (half with a TI-30XS calculator, half without) , Writing: 110 minutes (includes 45 minutes for essay writing), 50-51 questions , Reading: 85 minutes, 48-49 questions , Science: 75 minutes, 48-49 questions , Social Studies: 75 minutes, 48-49 questions .
