Courses/Programs offered
event_available Preschool
St. Mary Early Childhood Program offers a 1/2 or full day option for our 3 & 4 year old students. We understand that an appropriate preschool experience offers a nurturing environment where children have the freedom to play, learn and interact with one another, discovering the wonders of God's world in the course of a child-oriented day. St. Mary provides children opportunities to form relationships - with God, teachers and peers - and to grow in trust and respect while recognizing the worth of every individual.

For kindergarten a child needs to be ready for the program and by law must be 5 years old by August 31. The kindergarten curriculum is designed to meet spiritual and developmental needs of each child. The formal core curriculum follows the Diocese of Raleigh Catholic Curriculum and Guidelines and the North Carolina Curriculum Standards. The curriculum includes Religion, Reading and Language Arts, Phonics, Math, Science and Social Studies. Students will also participate in electives such as Physical Education, Primary or Choral Music, Suzuki Violin, Art, Library skills, Spanish and Computer Technology.

In the first through fifth grades the elementary curriculum continues to build on the strong foundation established in Kindergarten. In addition, a computer skills curriculum is taught to prepare students to use computer technology for school work and to develop skills integrated throughout the core curriculum, in problem solving and data collecting. Students continue with the full selection of elective subjects. Our standardized testing program consists of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, Riverside Writing Test, Cog -At Test and Algebra.

The Middle School Program offers a departmentalized approach to instruction. Students in grades 6 - 8 are assigned to a homeroom class where they begin each day with Religion. Students rotate to other instructors throughout the day to meet the core curriculum requirements in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Computer technology is integrated with the core subjects. Electives classes are offered on a quarterly basis and cover technology topics such as 3D Architecture, Web Design, and 3D Rendering in addition to Yearbook and Publication, Nutrition and Sports Fitness, Health and Life Skills, and Spanish. Students participate in Physical Education and Music (choir, band, and Suzuki violin) classes twice each week.
