event_available Upper form With a strong foundation built in our lower grades, students in the upper form embark on a learning journey that promotes collaboration and self-direction, inquiry and argumentation, and exploration and critical thinking through a curriculum that focuses on problem solving and skill development.
event_available High School Test Prep Course During the first trimester of eighth grade, we provide a preparation class for the High School Placement Test. Using the Peterson’s Master the Catholic High School Entrance Exams text, students will receive instruction about the format, scoring, question types, and best strategies to employ when tackling this exam. Since the HSPT is a timed test, it is critical that students learn techniques to increase their speed, while maintaining accuracy in their responses. An initial diagnostic exam enables the students to identify areas of potential improvement. Instruction can then be tailored to address these areas. In addition to the class textbook, students have access to practice questions from supplementary resources. Additional support can be scheduled with the teacher after school. At the conclusion of the trimester, students will complete a second full-length exam to access improvements and increase familiarity and comfort with the testing process. Interview skills and mock interview will conclude the course. The course, taught by Mrs. Tammy Hayes-Hartman, our Librarian, has been a great success.
event_available Reading Intervention Our Lower Form reading intervention program provides students with instruction in early literacy skills at each student’s targeted level. Research shows that students who receive early literacy support can meet and exceed grade-level expectations as they grow. Reading intervention is offered to students in grades kindergarten through four who score below grade level on the Acadience Benchmark assessment, an early literacy skills assessment given to all lower-form students.
event_available Lower Form The Academy’s Lower Form is home to students in Early Childhood (ages 4 & 5) through Grade 4. During these formative years, emphasis is placed on the academic, social and spiritual growth of our students. Our young scholars explore, discover, build, and create to learn new concepts and skills. The Lower Form gathers together weekly to pray, learn social skills, share news and ideas, problem-solve, and celebrate. To meet each lower form student where he is academically and harness their curiosity, students engage in learning Literacy (reading and writing), Science, Mathematics, Social studies, Spanish, and Religion.
