event_available ISEE & SSAT Tutoring
The ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam), like the similar SSAT (Secondary School Admissions Test), is designed to measure a student’s verbal and analytical skills as compared to those of other students in the same grade. While the two tests differ in structure and organization, both are part of the admissions process to independent day schools in New York City. Students may submit results from either the ISEE or the SSAT.
Next Level Learning Center offers a comprehensive ISEE preparation program with individualized support and proctored practice testing throughout the fall and winter exam season. Admissions support includes preparation for student interviews and all essays (including parent responses). Next Level’s ISEE experts recommend getting started at least six months prior to the test, but many students begin preparation a full year or more before the exam to help ensure they achieve their greatest potential.
event_available TACHS Tutoring
The TACHS (Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools) is used exclusively by Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn/Queens and the Archdiocese of New York. Alternatively, some Catholic high schools use the HSPT (High School Placement Test) to select candidates entering 9th grade. If you intend to apply for admission to a Catholic high school in New York City, it is important to refer to each school’s website to determine which test to take and when and where to do so. The TACHS is administered every November at Catholic schools across the city and the HSPT is frequently administered to 8th graders at the school to which they are applying. Test dates for the HSPT vary.
event_available SHSAT Tutoring
There are two entry points to the Specialized High Schools, the 9th and 10th grades. The SHSAT is administered in late October or early November to 8th and 9th grade students living in New York City. The SHSAT is three hours long and consists of two multiple-choice sections in English Language Arts and Math. The 9th grade test is structured the same way but the content is significantly more challenging than on the 8th grade exam.
Next Level Learning has a proven approach to SHSAT tutoring that we have cultivated through almost two decades of teaching the SHSAT and receiving detailed feedback from students who have taken the exam. That means Next Level instructors are very familiar with the material that appears on the SHSAT.
event_available Exeter Math Tutoring
Exeter Math is an integrated, problem-oriented, inquiry-based approach to mathematics that differs significantly from the approach to traditional math curriculum. It was developed as a means of challenging students to dynamically solve math problems instead of using rote memorization of rules. Instead of teaching students specific math concepts and providing conventional solutions, Exeter Math helps students learn to conceptualize problems in a way that develops analytical reasoning and independent solving skills.

In a word, Yes! In fact, in some instances the college essay can make or break an application. Especially for highly selective schools where admissions are competitive, a strong essay can be the deciding factor. All things bring relatively equal, the essay is an opportunity for applicants to distinguish themselves from the pack.
event_available GRE Tutoring
The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) was created by the Educational Testing Service in 1949 and has been used since then for graduate school admissions. The GRE is three hours and 45 minutes long and consists of three main sections, beginning with Analytical Writing and followed by Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning.
The GRE is divided into five sections: Analytical Writing, two Verbal Reasoning, and two Quantitative Reasoning sections.
event_available ACT & SAT Tutoring
The ACT is a college entrance exam accepted by all college admissions offices in the United States and Canada as an alternative to the SAT. Because the ACT is substantially different from the SAT, some students find it better suited to their aptitude, style, and test-taking skills. Please see this link for an overview of the differences between the ACT and the SAT.
Once a student chooses the ACT over the SAT, a professional Next Level ACT instructor will assess the student’s individual learning style, review content, timing, strategy, and shortcuts for the exam, and then focus on strengthening skills and confidence. For many students, the ACT is the first standardized exam they are taking that will have a significant impact on their life and future, and of course every student feels considerable pressure to do well. Personalized one-on-one tutoring support is the most efficient way to reduce test anxiety and improve performance. When students feel confident about their ability and preparation, they are more likely to achieve the results they seek.

event_available AP Tutoring
Advanced Placement (AP) courses were created by the College Board (the same company that created the SAT and SAT Subject Exams), to offer college-level content and assignments to juniors and seniors in high school. AP courses cover the arts, languages, social and natural sciences such as US History, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Physics and Art History. Students commonly meet four to six hours a week (depending on the need for additional lab time) in preparation for exams that are administered in the beginning of May each year.
