About

Background and Purpose of KTS:

Founded in 2005 by Cindy Kaplan (technical editor of NEW SAT FOR DUMMIES, SAT FOR DUMMIES, 1001 SAT QUESTIONS FOR DUMMIES, 1001 ACT QUESTIONS FOR DUMMIES, ENGLISH GRAMMAR FOR DUMMIES, and CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAMS FOR DUMMIES), KAPLAN TUTORING SERVICES INC (KTS) provides private (one-on-one) tutoring, small-class tutoring, and Zoom tutoring for students in grades 5 through 12 (and beyond) throughout Rhode Island, southeastern Massachusetts, eastern Connecticut, and across the United States via the Internet.

Because social distancing is impossible for tutoring, during the COVID-19 pandemic, all tutoring will be done remotely via Zoom, Skype, or speakerphone. SAT, ACT, SSAT, HSPT, LSAT, MCAT and GRE prep, as well as all academic tutoring, are being done remotely very successfully. Several advantages actually accrue from remote learning, namely: driving time to and from the tutoring location is eliminated; students who live far from RI can take advantage of KTS tutoring; and tutors who moved away from RI can continue to tutor students from other locations. For example, KTS tutor from RI, CA, NC, and IL have tutored students in MI, PA, LA, TX, NH, and NY, as well as in RI and MA.

We have helped athletes raise their scores to attain scholarships, NCAA eligibility, and acceptance into elite colleges and universities. KTS tutoring has enabled middle and high school students to be accepted at the boarding, private, or Catholic high schools of their choice, to be admitted to their honors programs, and to sometimes win merit scholarships.

At KTS, we can also provide college planning advice to students and their families as they negotiate the enormous variety of options available: Early Decision I and II, Early Action, merit scholarships, AP courses and AP exams, summer programs, rigor in curriculum, recommendations from teachers and others, service trips, community service projects, and extra-curricular activities. We can also help students to prepare for college interviews and help students and their families fill out the Common Application and apply for scholarships and financial aid. We also work with students to create attractive resumes and outstanding, personal college essays.
