Courses/Programs offered

event_available Preschool Our Montessori preschool program is founded on the firm belief that each child is a unique individual; placed in a nurturing environment that encourages exploration and is geared to the fulfillment of individual needs, the child will thrive and develop to their full potential. Based on Montessori principles of education, the Stepping Stones (21 months- 3 years-old) and Stargazer (3 - 5 years old) preschool classrooms foster the qualities of independence, initiative, and responsibility.
event_available Lower School In the Lower School years, children search, question, and respond to the world around them, while working hard to acquire the essential skills necessary for future academic success. In a school day balancing independent exploration with intentional and coordinated instruction in all subjects, there is sequential skill building and time allowed for both practice and genuine understanding.
event_available Middle School The Middle School at the Friends School of Wilmington is an academically challenging environment where students are supported in their learning and social development by dedicated teachers who understand the joys and challenges of this important developmental phase. Students are expected to engage in cooperative, hands on learning in a way that crosses curricular subject areas and requires increasing levels of critical thinking and personal responsibility. Our Middle School faculty teaches 6th through 8th grade students which provides the opportunity for strong connections and a thorough understanding of each student’s unique personality and learning styles.
event_available Environmental Learning You can support the Longleaf Center by sponsoring a tree with a ribbon of your own. Make a gift of any size towards the Longleaf Center and receive a ribbon (or hemp rope!) to tie around the tree of your choice. The ribbon will also include a reused/recycled card where you can write your family name, message, or dedication and will be proudly displayed before, during and after October 14th. All materials will be environmentally friendly in keeping with the Longleaf standard of environmental sustainability.
