I have been tutoring physics off and on for many years, in fact it was my first paid employment in the seventies when I was still at school! I did consider a teaching career but instead entered the telecommunications industry where I held roles which ranged from technical development through to corporate strategy. During my career I have also been a visiting lecturer to both Aston University and Coventry University. I took early retirement in 2011 and have been focused on teaching physics since then. As well as providing tuition I also teach A-level physics part time at a local academy school.
I only tutor physics so I understand the issues that students can have with this subject. As a result I am familiar with the different specifications and have built up a large library of teaching material and worksheets. Wherever possible I try to use the experiences that I have gained during my career to provide real life examples and case studies and most importantly to demonstrate that physics is fun!
My hobby is aviation and I also work as a flying instructor. This means that I am well used to providing one-to-one teaching to students with a range of abilities, furthermore I have been trained to teach in a difficult environment - an aircraft.
I am a patient and understanding teacher with experience of teaching a wide cross-section of pupils and am familiar with many of the common stumbling blocks pupils encounter when studying physics in particular.
I hold an enhanced CRB/DBS check.
