About

Boston Partners in Education was founded in 1966 with a single goal: to give the children who are struggling in school the tools necessary to become better learners. We achieve this by mobilizing community members to serve as volunteer academic mentors to K-12 students in theBoston Public Schools(BPS). We are dedicated to building sustainable partnerships with individuals and organizations in order to support the entire BPS community. For over 50 years, we’ve placed academic mentors directly in the classroom, during the school day, to help students fill gaps in their knowledge. The consistent service of our trained volunteers provides students with the additional support they need to stay in school and graduate .

event_available VIRTUAL IN-CLASS MENTORING Academic mentors meet students where they are, joining them in their virtual classrooms during the school day to provide additional academic and socio-emotional support. For at least one hour per week, mentors work with students via Zoom or Google Meet – either one-on-one, in small groups of 2-4, or in a whole class setting. During mentoring sessions, volunteers will review classwork, support student projects, and help students build skills in their areas of need. This is a critical component of the mentoring relationship, especially for those students feeling challenged by the isolation of online learning. Mentors build rapport with students, promoting social-emotional learning competencies such as self-management, social awareness, and responsible decision-making.
event_available INDEPENDENT LEARNING SUPPORT Boston Partners in Education is excited to announce the return of our online mentoring model that will provide students more agency in requesting mentor support. Introduced last year, our Independent Learning Support model brings our core mentoring programs outside the “classroom” for the first time to better accommodate the fluid education and learning landscapes.
