Angus Lloyd Associates, Inc. (ALA) is a private education clinic. Our purpose is three-fold: we offer one-on-one basic academic-skill rehabilitation to school-aged children; as members of the Association for Direct Instruction, we train educators across Ontario to implement Direct Instruction programs; and we offer guidance and information to parents of exceptional learners.
Direct-Instruction teaching is a research-based method of instruction. The method is predicated on six big ideas: isolate the skill to be remediated; start at a safe place for the learner; use consistent, clear language by following a script; introduce a sequence of instruction that includes all the skills and subskills needed by the learner; monitor what the student has mastered; and re-teach to remediate persistent errors.
The theoretical propositions that underlie Direct Instruction are summarized and tested in books such as Conceptual Learning (1969), Theory of Instruction: Principles and Applications (1982), Inferred Functions of Performance and Learning (2004), and Could John Stuart Mill Have Saved Our Schools? (2004). The interested reader is directed to Project Follow Through, the most extensive educational experiment ever conducted.
We help students with moderate to severe learning problems achieve success in language, reading, spelling, written language, and mathematics.
Angus Lloyd Associates is a team of educational consultants who have been helping children and adolescents with learning problems or disabilities achieve success in school since 1996. We offer structured one-on-one teaching through proven Direct Instruction programs.
